Should You Choose a Strapless Wedding Dress?

Executive Summary By Mae Summerville & Marilee Knapik

If you have ever picked up a celebrity magazine and read about a celebrity that has recently gotten married they very likely wore a wedding dress. Because of the clean lines and elegant layout most stars choose this type of dress. However as with most things your body shape, the type of wedding you are having, and your budget will weigh heavily in whether you need to choose a strapless wedding gown for your dress.

One reason stars love to wear is they show off their very good physiques. It also helps to frame a beautiful face and of course accentuates a great bust line. If you are blessed in terms of physique and a beautiful face then this is your dress.

One drawback to a strapless wedding dress is that it has to fit perfectly. If you are someone who has weight fluctuations you would need to monitor your weight closely and basically be sure you maintain the weight and overall body build you had when you were measured for the dress. If you have let the stress of wedding planning get to you and tend to eat or not eat when under stress this may not be the dress for you. It is you against gravity and if you falter then gravity will win.

Because a strapless gown shows off your physique if you are heavy or out of shape this would not be the best selection for you. One popular alternative is wearing a wedding basque. One big plus with a strapless wedding gown is it is a great choice for a summer wedding. You can get strapless gowns with sleeves if you desire. Then take your magazine or pic and head to the local bridal dress shop and try on several different styles.

What's With All the Strapless Wedding Gowns?

I'm not saying some of these gowns aren't beautiful, well the bottom half anyway. It seems the brides strapless gown left her a bit over exposed. It is easy to understand why the dress designers love strapless. Of course strapless gowns aren't cheaper to buy but certainly have to be cheaper to make.

I've seem strapless in the winter, in Wisconsin Yet! and I've seen all body types wearing strapless, from the tiny to the overflowing and every thing in between. In most of these cases the bride suffers from, what I call the "I think my dress is falling off," syndrome; where the bride spends much of her Wedding day pulling the gown up, whether it's necessary or not.

I long for the day of cap sleeves, bell sleeves, tight sleeves, short sleeves...any kind of sleeve at all. I know finding a wedding dress that has these attributes isn't easy but come on future brides UNITE!, demand more material for your money!

In writing this article I attempted to get some pictures of wedding dresses that weren't strapless and had actual necklines and guess what?, with the exception of spaghetti straps the pictures were virtually nonexistent.

I'm beginning to think anything but a strapless wedding gown is something I must have imagined.
