Baby jewelry - Safety checklist for the concerned mother

Every mother wants her baby to look the cutest possible. Moms tend to dress up their little girls (and boys) with pretty jewelry and accessories to make them look sweet. While these jewelry items and accessories can be really cute, there are some serious dangers to be aware of when purchasing baby jewelry.

One of the most popular yet vulnerable accessories for babies is earrings. Some parents get their baby's ears pierced while they are still infants. Ear piercing is a major concern that parents face. Although ear piercing is a relatively safer procedure there still can be chances of infection to the tiny ears. When you get your baby's ears pierced, make sure to check the pierced site daily for signs of infection. Prefer studs for babies. Baby can find pull the hoop off the ear which can be very dangerous.

Some other popular jewelry articles can be baby bracelets and baby pendants. Be sure all pendants, bracelets and earrings are securely clasped. Preferably remove bracelets and necklaces / pendants at bedtime. Just helps the baby (and of course you) sleep better.

Another danger associated with baby jewelry is lead poisoning. Babies love to put things in their mouths, and lead jewelry can be very dangerous. Make sure you're your baby jewelry does not have lead in it and the material used for baby jewelry is safe.
