Tips Attire Wedding Dresses

wedding dress

One of the biggest decisions you will face as the big day approaches is choosing the perfect and wedding attire. You might have had a clear mental picture of the perfect wedding dress ever since you were five years old.

So you should ideally start shopping for your nine months or more before your wedding. First- consider which wedding dress is most appropriate to your day - for example- consider a shorter tea-length or cocktail length dress for a beach wedding. Look for wedding dresses with removable sleeves or straps to give you the widest range of options.

wedding dress

If a friend is making your wedding dress, ensure that you have agreed on a fitting schedule and chances to make adjustments. If you're looking for a bargain at a sample sale, or discount outlet, you should budget money for taking the dress to a good tailor. Many designers will ask for three fittings, and will closely tailor your wedding dress to fit you.

If money is an issue, remember that the most expensive kind of dress is not necessarily the best kind. Many brides find a bridesmaids dress in white or off-white that works perfectly, and is hundreds of dollars cheaper. There are thousands of dresses to be had at sample sales, thrift stores, and ebay. If you choose to make your own dress, don't delay. Don't forget this is your wedding day.

Seating Schmeating!

Soooo, do you do this?

Or this?

Why? What's the difference? Does it matter?

First you have to ask yourself a series of questions, and the answers will help you determine which to do, if at all.

  • Are you serving a plated meal with various selections for your guests to choose from?

    • If so, you might steer clear of the seating chart, because you'll need to distinqish their selections some how to the servers or catering staff.

  • Do you have limited seating, or the exact number of tables you'll need for your guests?

    • If so, you'll need to consider some kind of table chart or seating cards, because you're guests will usually leave a seat or two open at their tables and that can't happen if you are limited.

  •  Are you only reserving a few tables for your guests?

    • For instance, it's open seating, but you want to make sure your parents and grandparents sit closest to you - then you'll need to have a few reserved signs at those tables in advance.

These are by all means NOT all of the reasons, but it should give you some help while you are determing where and how you'll seat your guests.

Drink it Up!

Brides are looking for ways to cut back, but don't want to look stingie or cheap while doing so - so do you NEED to have an open bar at your wedding, I mean a full-all-out open bar?

Why not just do beer and wine, do 3 different kinds of beer, and a White and Red wine - and one signature drink... that will limit what your guests can drink - and your can even come up with a fun name for your drink. You can color coordinate your drink to your colors, come up with a theme....or pre mix the drink so that your bar tender doesn't have to mix it individually.

We've also have done His and Her's for cocktails as well. So it'd be two signature drinks instead of just one...more variety and still super fun!

To Blush!

To Blusher or Not to Blusher - that is the question.

When I was at the Bridal Salon last weekend, I noticed that brides didn't know what certain terms meant...one being - a blusher.

The Blusher is the piece of the veil that you typically wear in front of your face, to keep evil spirits away. At least that is what they used to think it was for.
Now it's used as a tradition. You don't have to wear one, or a veil at all for that matter. But it's definately an option.
Most bride's take off the veil for the reception it gives you some fun flexibility with your hair too, up for the ceremony - down for the party!

THE ULTIMATE PROM DRESS BUYING GUIDE

prom dresses

What exactly is Prom? The definition might vary depending on who you talk to. There is no official History of Prom, but there are many tales, beliefs and traditions surrounding the practice which can be shared.

For some prom is a night that girls prepare for their entire high school year, waiting for that special moment when they can shop for formal prom dresses and show off their gorgeous attire at the dance that honors their high school career.

Prom is a formal dance that can be held anywhere from a school gym to a fancy hotel. Usually a DJ is hired, and juniors and seniors are invited to spend the night dancing and celebrating (though many believe that prom night should be officially reserved for seniors).

Some girls have described their prom night as their chance to be Cinderella. This is due in part to the heavy emphasis that is placed on wearing elegant gowns and fancy hair.

Some will assert that prom is a celebration of the year and the moment marking a young adult's transformation from high school to a life of adulthood.

Whether prom is a night to remember or just a dance, it does require a little preparation. One thing that is certain, choosing a prom gown requires a little thought and planning.

Buying Prom Dresses Online

Buying prom dresses online is one of the easiest and least time consuming ways to shop. It is also a lot of fun, because you get to check out hundreds more varieties than you would if you were shopping in a traditional store.

Online shopping also offers a wider variety of selections in one handy place. You can purchase cheap prom dresses, a designer prom dress, a discount prom dress, plus size prom dress and formal prom dresses easily just through the click of a button.

You can even shop for a designer prom dress or a discount prom dress in the same place! You can usually even find special occasion dresses (so you don't need to shop for a graduation dress at a later date) at the same time you are shopping for prom dresses online, because they're often sold together.

Whether you're looking for cheap prom dresses or designer ones, there are several things you should keep in mind to ensure you pick the perfect gown.

Body Type

Body type is an important consideration when shopping for an online prom dress. In fact some might say that this is THE most important consideration when shopping. You definitely want to select a dress that matches your body type. Don't pick a dress just because it looks good on the model displaying it on the net. Why? You probably have a different body type than she does. You should choose a gown that will play up your best features.

Consider your body. It is curvy? An hourglass shape often (characterized by a large bust, small waste and curvy hips) is one common body type. Maybe it's boyish (straighter waist, narrow hips and smaller bust). Are you round all over? Perhaps you are pear shaped (larger on the bottom than on the top). Take a minute to check out your body and decide on the shape. Then you can choose a dress that will flatter it.

prom dress

Here are some prom dress selections for different body types:

Hourglass - Hourglass figures are lucky, they usually look good in almost anything. Consider strapless or halter top dresses, those with sashes and cinched waists.

Straight - If you have a boyish figure, you'll want to try avoiding body hugging dresses that might emphasize your squarer figure. Try an A-line dress that is slightly fitted which will help add volume and curves. Open shoulders are a good option. Consider a dress with a flared skirt.

Rounded - For rounder figured women there are many flattering dresses. Consider ones with a drop waist and low neckline. A low neckline helps enhance the bust and the drop waist lengthens your torso. An empire cut dress is also flattering because it lengthens the body and figure overall. You might try pairing this with a slightly flared skirt.

Pear Shaped - A-line dresses that are straight cut and empire waists are good selections for this body shape, because they lengthen the legs and torso, giving the appearance of balance and height.

Sizing

How do you know what size to buy? Size is actually a big problem for many women. The closer to your actual size you get the less likely you'll need alterations. That said keep in mind that manufacturers sizes vary. You may be a size 10 normally, but that may be an 8 in some dresses and a 12 in others. So how do you know which to buy? Fortunately almost all dresses listed online will have a manufacturers sizing chart handy!! You can figure out your size by taking your bust, waist and hip measurements. Then match up your measurements with those on the chart and you'll have your size!

What if the size you are doesn't match the manufacturers chart? Let's say your bust is a 38 which is a size 10 but your waist is equal to a size 6. Which do you buy? Always go with the measurement that is largest. It is easy to take away fabric when altering a dress, but not so easy to add on if you buy a size that is too small.

Contest Deadline Extension!

There has been a big announcement made over at Let's Eat Cake!
The deadline for Professional Submissions has been extended!!!

Let's Jump!!!

I had such a great time at Wedding JumpStart on Saturday at Solutions Bridal!!! It has been a long time since I've been in a bridal salon on a Saturday!! Thank you to Solutions Bridal, and all of the girls that were there, for allowing me to have so much fun and chat with your brides about their weddings!
I learned so much more than I ever thought possible! I know, I know - I was supposed to be helping brides - I promise that happened too! But just being there on a very intimate momment, and being the 3rd party - that probably has never met that bride before. Was so thrilling!
Let me tell you what I learned while I was giving advice to brides about their wedding!
  • No dress looks the same on the same bride. We all know this - but with in 10 minutes 2 brides tried on and bought the SAME dress - and it looked totally different on each of them - and they both loved it equally.

  • Popping Champagne when you find the wedding dress of your dreams is soooooooo fun!

    • We popped 4 bottles while I was there, and I had the best time watching the brides and their friends and family, gush over the experience.

  • Don't bring too many people with you when you go dress shopping, bring those that you'll trust their opinions, fully and honestly!

    • You might look amazing in each dress, but being able to decipher THE ONE, and the one you look good in, are two totally different things.

  • I'll have to do this again, I had a great time!!!

See you at the next Wedding JumpStart!!!

How to Find a Bargain Wedding Dress

The bride's dress is often the focal point for any wedding, in both the ceremony and the budget. But this second point doesn't have to be the case-there are many options now that will save you a lot of green on your white weddings.
Bargain Wedding DressBargain Wedding DressBargain Wedding DressBargain Wedding Dress

First, if you happen to be or know any kind of seamstress, see about having them design and sew the dress for you (or designing or sewing your own). This is a huge favor to ask someone, but chances are it will save you oodles of money, as you're paying for nothing more than materials and labor. You can get a bridal catalog look without the bridal catalog price, plus the dress will be custom made to fit you, so no tailoring needed.

If hand made isn't an option, it's still possible to get a dress from a major retailer on the cheap. In many of these stores, the employees work on commission and will be more than willing to come to an agreement about the price to get you to buy. Regardless, don't make unreasonable demands and treat your clerk with courtesy and respect. Other ways of saving at the big end retailers include taking advantage of sample sales, being lenient about the size (the dress doesn't have to fit like a glove), switching to lower-cost material, or using a white bridesmaid dress. This last option is a great little trick that will easily save you hundreds of dollars, especially if your taste in wedding dresses runs more on the simple, understated side.

You can also opt to buy a used wedding dress (eBay is great for this). There are also companies that rent designer gowns, for weddings and otherwise, out for a day or evening at the fraction of the cost of actually purchasing one. They generally have a great selection in styles and sizes, as they pull their products from all over: factory showrooms, fashion shows, women selling their old gowns. If you're the sentimental type who would want to hold on to your wedding dress for posterity, this may not be an option for you, but do remember that it's cheaper to rent the dress and keep a picture of it than to buy the dress outright.
Bargain Wedding DressBargain Wedding Dress

Remember, a wedding isn't about how much money you spend or the dress you're wearing, but about you. Let that rule of thumb keep you from getting caught up in the wedding spending frenzy.

The Sweetest Thing!

We had a fantastically perfect wedding this past weekend! It was a really long day, almost 22 hours, but it didn't matter because we love our clients, especially Audrey and Nate!!! In fact, Audrey offered to write a series of posts for us about her wedding!!! So, definately be looking for that!

At about 11PM, the day of the wedding, this email comes in from the photographer, Lindsey, and it says:

Audrey and Nate were talking about how glad they were to have hired you. Audrey said she was so surprised how much you were able to do-- and that you did her hair better than the hair dresser! She was so pleased that you were there and so helpful all day and that she was so happy to have hired you! She had no idea how much you really were going to end up doing. :)

I was blushing from ear to ear! Can't wait to get their photographs in!!!

Here's the deal - if you blog about Let's Eat Cake! on your blog or website (before January 12th, 2009)  - MasterPiece Weddings will donate $1 for every site that mentions Let's Eat Cake! (and links to Let's Eat Cake's website) and our cause. In fact to make it easy for you, I'll even give you the text! You can copy and paste what I've written below, or write from your own heart.

  • Blog about Let's Eat Cake! {email me, or leave a comment with your blog address so we can verify}

  • MasterPiece Weddings will donate a dollar for every post on each blog

  • Do it before January 12th

We are officially at crunch time - please help us! I'd love another company to match my challenge, if you know of one, or you are one - email me at melissa {at} masterpieceweddings.net.

Here we goooooooooooooo:

Masterpiece Weddings, an event coordination agency founded by Melissa Margarita-DiStefano, is working really hard to put on an amazing fundraiser in February called Let’s Eat Cake! - which will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital - an incredible organization that’s dedicated to treating children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

Let’s Eat Cake! is a wedding cake competition, featuring Wedding Cake confections from all over the United States. Bakers will feature their cakes to be judged by Local and National Culinary Celebrities. In addition bakers will be asked to make enough cake to feed the general public, so that they may judge the cakes as well!

Our Goal is to raise $50,000 for this extremely worthy cause, we know times are tough for everyone out there. But that doesn't mean that doesn't mean that kids still aren't getting sick. Please help spread the word about our goal, and our mission. If you can help financially, that'd be great, if you blogging about this right now.... your spreading the word - and that's all we can ask for!

Thank you!

So what are  you waiting for??? Blog about this today, and help me to donate a dollar!
